Awards won by Flowerpots beers are shown at the bottom of the page.

Flowerpots Bitter  3.8% ABV

A dry, hoppy traditional bitter with a light bronze colour. Excellent on its own and particularly good with food.

Brewed regularly.
Goodens Gold  4.8% ABV

A classic beer in the modern 'Golden Ale' style, with a superb gold colour and fullness in the mouth, which come from a subtle mixture of lightly caramelised malts.  Packed full of powerful but fruity North American hops giving a good level of bitterness to perfectly balance the gravity.

Brewed regularly.

Perridge Pale  3.6% ABV

A light straw colour with a subtle twist of citrus hop. A very refreshing beer with a perfect clean finish.

Brewed regularly.
Flowerpots IPA  6.0% ABV

Brewed with powerful North American Simcoe hops to give a strong fruity hop flavour which balances the weight of malt in a traditional 6% IPA - very full and rounded in the mouth.

First brewed Aug 2009, and due to huge demand it is now a semi-regular beer.

Bate's Better Bitter  4.2% ABV

Catherine revised her original Bate's Best Bitter with a reduced ABV, more complex depth of flavour with smooth notes of Seville marmalade and a deep fruit backing.

Very popular; likely to become a semi-regular beer.
Hopton Pale  4.3% ABV

A modern style light IPA, with a real mouthful of fruity North American hops, a lingering bitter finish, and a superb gold/amber colour.

Designed and first brewed by brewster Catherine Bate in June 2011.

Extremely popular and likely to become a semi-regular beer.

Light Duty  2.9% ABV

A light standard bitter with just enough hop and malt to pass as a regular session beer.  It is a major revision of the original "Two Point Nine" serving as a benchmark for future production of a true 2.8% ABV beer.

Brewed for the annual Flowerpots Beer Festival 2011.
Stottidge Stout  4.5% ABV

A traditional stout with not too much bitterness or hop character, allowing the roasted barley flavour to come through.

100th brew; first brewed Oct/Dec 2007, and now a regular seasonal beer.

Cheriton Porter  4.2% ABV

Dark brown/black with a creamy coffee aroma, a hint of sweetness in the mouth along with roasted chocolate maltiness, and a dry finish.

A semi-regular beer, brewed whenever we can fit it in.
Job Done  5.3% ABV

Rich malty flavours coming from Munich and Chocolate malt, with low bittering and gentle hopping using Crystal from the USA.  Full and very smooth in the mouth.

Iain McIntosh's last "special" brew at The Flowerpots, brewed for The Flowerpots Beer Festival 2011.

Whistle Blower  5.2% ABV

Designed and brewed by brewster Julie Jones.  A dark amber with smooth sweet maltiness, medium hopping and moderate bitterness.  Made with pure Munich and Vienna malt from Weyermann of Bamberg and noble New Zealand hops.

Sold faster than a runaway train; may be repeated.
Winchester Hog Mild  4.5% ABV

A one-off special brewed to celebrate the return of the Winchester Beer Festival in 2011. A strong darkish mild, the main flavour coming from Munich Type II malt from Weyermann of Bamberg and a subtle addition of Chocolate Malt, giving a deep chestnut colour. Lightly hopped with Sterling, giving a hint of spice, herbal notes and a floral citrus aroma (similar to Saaz).

Four Candles  3.5% ABV

Brewed for Christmas 2007, and every Christmas since, due to great popularity.

Light, dry and refreshing; with low alcohol for the drivers.
Elder Ale  3.8% ABV

A dry beer, very light in colour, with a hint of elderflower. Refreshing and fragrant.

Brewed in June/July when we can pick fresh elderflowers.

Stormchaser  4.2% ABV

Golden, hoppy and fragrant. A dry beer for those who like strong hop flavour & aroma.

First brewed in June 2008, then again June 2009. Sold at The Flowerpots under the name 'Old Tosh' for reasons best known to Paul & Jo..... Very popular, but difficult to fit in as a regular. Brewed at least once every year.
Pots Black  3.2%

A traditional style dark mild. Not too bitter and with a hint of smoky malt.

Brewed 2 or 3 times each year and usually for CAMRA Mild Month.

Bate's Best Bitter  4.6% ABV

A premium bitter with hints of orange marmalade and a good depth of bitterness.

A special beer designed and first brewed by brewster Catherine Bate in March 2010.
Bloomers  4.0% ABV

A darker malty session beer with not too much bittering and a tinge of roasted barley.

Brewed occasionally.

South Brown  4.2% ABV

A rich chestnut brown with a good balance of malt.  The main grist is solely Munich malt from Weyermann of Bamberg with the addition of some coloured malts.  Roasted malt flavours dominate the palate with restrained hopping and a sweet light finish.

A work in progress.
Pridewood Pots  3.8% ABV

Brewed with freshly picked Goldings from Pridewood hop farm in Herefordshire. These give a more spicy almost peppery finish to what would otherwise be Flowerpots Bitter, and it proved very popular indeed.

Brewed Sept 2008 and 2009.

Wheatsheaf Best  4.2% ABV

A traditional bitter with a fragrant fruity aroma and a superb copper colour.

Currently discontinued. Originally Brewed throughout 2007. Also appeared as 'Hop Dog' with Amarillo & Cascade hops.

Currently discontinued.

Wheatear  4.2% ABV

A refreshing, dry, golden beer with a goodly slug of wheat malt and continental hops.

Brewed for Christmas 2008.

2 point 9  2.9% ABV

Produced in response to great demand for a low alcohol beer. The initial brew is a bit lighter in the mouth than planned, so we view it very much as a 'work in progress'. Due to be brewed again in summer 2011.

May become a semi-regular brew.
Terra Cotta  4.2%

A mid-brown beer with a superb red hue. Not too bitter or hoppy, allowing the malt to show.

Brewed in July 2008.

Autumn Blaze  5.1% ABV

Made with pure Munich Malt (Dunkel) which gives a lovely round malty beer with bags of flavour.

Brewed autumn 2008 and 2009.
Chime  5.4% ABV

Christmas beer 2011, Dark Ruby Ale brewed with high roast malts from Weyermann of Bamberg.

Jingle Juice  6.1% ABV

A porter/stout style beer, with shed-loads of crystal and chocolate malt (almost overflowed the mash tun). Very full on the palate, with huge depth of flavour. Also sold as 'Pots Porter'.

Brewed for Christmas 2006.
Abbey Christmas  4.7% ABV
aka Cheriton Abbey

Christmas beer 2010, brewed with a Belgian yeast strain, high roast malts from Weyermann of Bamberg and New Zealand Pacifica hops (Pacific Hallertau). A rounded "brown" beer with a slight malt/yeast bitterness and orange citrus hop notes.

Many customers ask if any of the current beers are the same as the Cheriton Brewhouse beers.  All of the beer recipes have changed, processes have changed, and there is no plan to use the old recipes.  Having said that, Flowerpots Bitter remains true to the style of the old Pots Ale, albeit with different hops.  Goodens Gold bears no resemblance to the old Diggers Gold, and indeed none of the ingredients from the old recipe are used in the new gold beer.  While the brewery and equipment are largely the same as used in the early years, malt supply is now from Bairds of Grantham with some speciality malts coming from Weyermann of Bamberg, the yeast strain has changed (thank-you Ramsbury Brewery for your superb yeast), and of course there are new brewers who regularly make changes to equipment and brewing processes in their efforts to brew beer of the highest quality.
